Creating A Bernheim Inspired Back Yard Habitat

This guided workshop from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. will show you how you can use native plants, like those growing in Bernheim's habitat displays, to create a unique habitat display in your own back yard that might attract butterflies, songbirds and other fun to observe wildlife that you can view from your own windows. You will learn the benefits of using native plants and eco-friendly gardening practices. This workshop also will make you aware of how to participate in the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife's "Back Yard Habitat" program and how you can create a wildlife habitat that will qualify for certification by the National Wildlife Federation, including the option to order and display an a Certified Wildlife Habitat sign to convey your commitment to wildlife conservation and the environment, and help you spread the word to your neighbors. The program fee is $30 for members, $45 for others, advance registration required. Age 13 and up. Meet at the Visitor Center.
