The Louisville Graphic Design Association (LGDA) hosted their 22nd annual 100 show at the Speed Museum this past weekend. The 100 Show is a juried competition that showcases both professional and student work in the areas of graphic design, illustration, photography, interactive media and motion design. The top 100 pieces of design from Louisville and the region are honored with a gold, silver or bronze award in each of the five categories. This year’s judges were David Kampa of McGarrah Jessee in Austin, TX, Michael Cina of Michael Cina Associates in Minneapolis, MN and Justin Fines of Brand New School in NY, NY. Those names may not mean anything to the general public, but you’ve seen the results of their work. One of McGarrah Jessee’s clients is Shiner beer and I can attest that I bought their seasonal Holiday Cheer beer based on that incredible packaging alone (the beer turned out to be just as good).

Graphic designer Tyler Deeb started his firm Pedale Design three years ago and he has been on staff with the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary as their art director for the past two years. Seven of his entries for the 100 Show were given awards. When asked if he felt the viewbook for the Seminary was his best work for them, he replied, “Yes. Front to end it was consistently good instead of just having a strong cover design. The entire layout, typography, color choice, all of it was strong.” Find Tyler’s impressive work at: pedaledesign.com.

    About Julie Gross

I’m originally from Ohio, but have been a Louisvillian for half my life. I divide my time between hubby, 3 kids, too many pets, and the 930 Art Center. When I'm not, you'll find me running the trails in Cherokee or Jefferson Memorial Forest.
