CONCERT AND CHORAL EVENSONG
SUNDAY, MAY 10, 5:00 PM
Christ Church Episcopal Cathedral continues its series of monthly concerts followed by Choral Evensong. On May 10 the half-hour concert, which begins at 5:00 pm, will feature Jane Halliday on violin. Ms. Halliday is violinist with the Highland Chamber Players, a string quartet performing both traditional and non-traditional quartet repertoire, who will perform pieces by Faure, Kirchhoff and Vaughan Williams. Accompanying Ms. Halliday will be Sam Hodge, piano; Charlie Patton, cello; and Dr. Jack Ashworth on the recently completed Gober Chancel Organ.
Following the concert, the Cathedral Choir will present the service of Choral Evensong. This is a quiet evening service born in 16th century England which combines the monastic prayers of Vespers and Compline. It will feature several plainsong chants and the anthem will be Bruckner’s Locus Iste. It is a peaceful and beautiful way to cap off a busy weekend.
This musical event is free and open to the public. An offering will be received to continue the outreach of the Cathedral Arts Program in Downtown Louisville.
