Have you ever wanted to run through a rainbow?

OK. That might be something reserved for fairytales, but this summer Kentuckians get the next best thing. Tonight The Color Run announced a Louisville stop, July 22, as part of its 2012 tour across the United States.

Billed as “the craziest, colorful, 5k of your life” and "the happiest 5k of your life," The Color Run brings together people of all athletic abilities, clothes them in white shirts and has them run or walk at their own pace through blasts of colored dust. The result is a beautifully messy living kaleidoscope of sorts, which organizers have deemed "Willy Wonka goodness." Don't worry, they insist the "elf-made dust" is 100 percent natural and safe for all.

Still confused? Check out this video, from a recent Color Run held in Las Vegas.

The family-friendly event will benefit a yet-unnamed local charity. Other specifics, such as the race map, have not yet been released, but registration opens at noon on April 9. Registration prices start at $40 per person, with discounts given for those who register as part of a "color team."
