Scouting Charleston
The College of Charleston Cougars will try to give the Southern Conference its second upset over a ranked team in as many days when it enters the KFC Yum! Center Tuesday. Davidson knocked off No. 12 Kansas Monday evening.
“They’re a tough road team,” Louisville coach Rick Pitino said of Charleston. “They know how to play on the road because they have outstanding leadership.”
The Cougars boast an 8-1 record, dropping only a Nov. 24 contest against Central Florida, and are paced by forward Antwaine Wiggins (18.1 ppg, 7 rpg). Louisville coach Rick Pitino said the senior southpaw reminds him a bit of the NBA's Dallas Mavericks newest player, Mr. Khloe Kardashian.
“He’s got a Lamar Odom type game.”
Pitino had another comparison for Charleston’s sophomore forward Trent Wiedeman (12 ppg, 8.3 rpg).
“Wiedeman is going to remind you of (former Notre Dame player Luke) Harangody in a lot of ways, in terms of where he gets his jump shot off and unorthodox moves. He’s a heckuva basketball player.”
Streaking Dieng
Sophomore center Gorgui Dieng enters Tuesday’s game off three consecutive double-doubles, including 14 points, 14 rebounds and six blocks thrown in for good measure against Memphis last out.
“He’s improved as much as any player that’s come here in a very short period of time,” Pitino said of the 6-11 Senegal native. “But there’s such a wide span for his growth because he’s comes in as a person that didn’t have an offensive move. He has so much room for growth and still does.”
Dieng ranks second in the Big East in blocks and third in field goal percentage and rebounding.
Kuric Recovering
Pitino said Monday that Kyle Kuric sprained a ligament in his left knee on an awkward spill in the Dec. 10 game against Fairleigh Dickinson but that the senior forward is now back to almost 100 percent.
