I had a very relaxed and enjoyable dinner at Club Grotto the other evening. The highlight for me was a roasted red pepper and crab bisque but for my dining companion the star of the evening was a dish of perfectly ripe heirloom tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, basil and balsamic vinegar. So basic and so delicious.
It’s really lovely to see a restaurant taking advantage in such a simple, unpretentious way of some of summer’s best offerings. That’s actually one of the things I like best about Club Grotto, it’s upscale in an old school unpretentious way.The wait staff is professional: attentive and attuned to your every need but not overly chatty or intrusive. The food is expertly prepared with a mix of classics and updated favorites but nothing too crazy. It’s comfortable for a weekend night on the town or a relaxed midweek meal.
Like the glory days of summer they represent heirloom tomatoes aren’t much longer for this world so a trip to Club Grotto to take advantage of their deliciousness should be on your agenda soon.
