Columbus completed its clean sweep of the Louisville Bats on Sunday.
The Clippers beat the Bats in both games of a doubleheader - 7-1 in the first and 4-2 in the second - to cap off their four-game series sweep.
Columbus (10-7) outscored Louisville 33-11 in the four games at Huntington Park.
After Saturday’s scheduled game between the two was rained out, the Clippers and Bats played a pair of seven-inning contests Sunday.
In the first game Columbus clubbed 13 hits to beat Raisel Iglesias and the Bats (6-10). Carlos Moncrief, the Clippers’ No. 7 hitter, led the hosts at the plate, going 3-for-3 with three runs batted in, three runs scored and a solo home run. Four other players - Francisco Lindor, Tyler Holt, Giovanny Urshela and Adam Moore - tallied two hits apiece for Columbus.
Iglesias (0-1) absorbed the loss. He gave up four runs (three earned) on eight hits while walking one and striking out one in 4 and 1/3 innings. Reliever Chris Carpenter allowed a trio of insurance runs to the Clippers in the sixth.
On the flip side Bruce Chen (2-1) shut down the Bats’ bats. The left-hander (whose Twitter handle is an amusing @ChenMusic) gave up just one earned run on three hits while striking out five in a complete-game victory.
Newcomer Ryan LaMarre led Louisville with two hits, including a game-opening solo home run. LaMarre was assigned to the Bats from the Cincinnati Reds' Rookie League affiliate Billings on Thursday, the same day they released Dan Johnson, who hit just .069 (2 for 29) in nine games.
In the second game, Michael Martinez’s one-out, solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning off of Louisville starter Matt Magill broke a 2-all tie. Magill gave up four earned runs on eight hits while walking four and striking out nine in his Reds’ organizational debut. Magill, who was acquired by the Reds in December in exchange for Chris Heisey, who activated off the 7-day disabled list Saturday, when Josh Satin (concussion) was placed on the DL.
Columbus starter Michael Roth (1-0) picked up the victory after giving up two earned runs on six hits while walking two and striking out two in five innings.
Former University of Louisville star Chris Dominguez led the Bats’ seven-hit attack, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs
The Bats return home Monday night to begin a five-game split series against Indianapolis. First pitch is slated for 6:35 p.m. at Louisville Slugger Field. Louisville left-hander David Holmberg (0-3, 11.37 earned-run average) will try to get off the schnide. He’ll face righty Chris Volstad (1-1, 3.18 ERA).
