The Choral Arts Society, James Rightmyer, conductor, presents Benjamin Britten’s The Burning Fiery Furnace, February 3 and 5, 8:00 pm, at St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church, US Hwy 42 at Wolf Pen Branch Road, Louisville.

Not what you normally think of when it comes to music of the church, Benjamin Britten’s The Burning Fiery Furnace is a unique and innovative work of the 20th century. The Choral Arts Society, under the direction of James Rightmyer, in collaboration with the Kentucky Opera, will put on two staged performances of this unique work on Thursday February 3rd at
8:00pm and February 5th at 8:00pm, both at St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church, US Hwy 42 at Wolf Pen Branch Road, Louisville.

The church opera, composed in 1966, tells of the biblical story, in the book of Daniel, of the three Hebrews who were put into the fiery furnace by King Nebuchadnezzar. The work uses the influence of Japanese Noh Theatre with the compliment of the Western opera style. Don’t miss your chance at seeing a wonderful work of Benjamin Britten performed by an impressive cast which includes tenor Stephen Spears as King Nebuchadnezzar, baritone Chad Sloane as The Astrologer, and members of the Louisville
Orchestra, who will perform on stage.
