CenterStage returns for their 2010-2011 Tony Award winning season with “Seussical, the Musical”, beginning July 8 through July 25, 2010. Show times include the following: July 8, 10, 15, 17, 19, 22 and 24 at 7:30 p.m., July 11, 18 and 25 at 2:00 p.m. and July 18 at 7:00 p.m.
Being one of the most performed shows in America, “Seussical, the Musical” is a musical extravaganza based on the books of Dr. Seuss that debuted on Broadway in 2000. The story line is a rather complex amalgamation of many of Dr. Seuss’s most famous books.
Boasting a score and libretto by the Tony Award-winning team of Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, “Seussical, the Musical” incorporates characters and scenarios from your favorite stories including “The Cat in the Hat”, “Horton Hears a Who!”, “Horton Hatches the Egg”, “Green Eggs and Ham”, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” and “Yertle the Turtle and Other Stories”, among many others.
The story centers around Horton the Elephant, who finds himself faced with a double challenge. Not only must he protect his tiny friend Jojo and all the people of Whoville from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left to his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the courageous Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him, the only one who recognizes his kind, powerful heart. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant in a story that will make all ages laugh and cry.
