Sesame Street Live!
Revisit the sunny days of your childhood with old friends like Big Bird, Oscar the Grouch and Elmo. Sesame Street Live! is presenting performances of "When Elmo Grows Up" all this weekend at the Brown Theater. Though their promotional materials say that the show is suitable for all ages, I wouldn't take a kid over 10 unless you want some major attitude. The show appears to be primarily geared towards preschoolers. However, I bet that even toddlers like Jack would enjoy the show with its bright colors, puppets and songs like "Itsy Bitsy Spider" sung in those weird, childlike voices. Highland Presbyterian Kids' Consignment Sale:
I've been told by moms "in the know" that this is an amazing kids' consignment sale. Members of Highland Presbyterian Church, and its preschool come together to consign baby and kids' items and clothing at low, low prices. I stopped by this morning and picked up some spring and summer clothes for Jack. They have a ton of name brand stuff, and I scored a cute, little Polo sweater for $3! The sale also carries a lot of other hot-ticket (and normally pricey) items like swings, strollers, toys and highchairs for very reasonable prices. The sale only runs through Saturday, and I recommend stopping by ASAP to ensure that you score the really good stuff. The church is on the corner of Cherokee Road and Highland Avenue and entrance to the sale is totally free.
The Dragon King's Daughter Restaurant:
My brilliant husband suggested that I start featuring a cool, local restaurant that is "kid friendly" each for my weekend picks. My inaugural restaurant suggestion was inspired by a great experience my family had last Friday night at "Dragon King's Daughter" in the Highlands. Located at the corner of Bardstown Road and Ellwood, this restaurant has a delicious menu of sushi as well as Japanese-inspired pizzas and tacos. Our waiter was helpful and friendly and even brought us a kids' plate and utensils for Jack to drop on the floor about 50 times through the course of dinner. There's loud classic rock music which perfectly covers up the screams of children and brightly colored pop art covers the walls. (Jack was strangely mesmerized by the Micheal Jackson prints adorning the walls above our table.) Regardless, it has great food and gets two thumbs up for being a hip, local and kid-friendly restaurant!
