Calvin Borel has just been announced to ride Todd Pletcher’s Revolutionary in the Kentucky Derby May 4. Revolutionary is trained by Todd Pletcher and owned by WinStar Farms. This trio found victory in the 2010 edition of the Kentucky Derby with Super Saver.

Revolutionary, a son of War Pass, will enter the Kentucky Derby on a three-race winning streak after breaking his maiden Dec. 28. He won the Grade 3 Withers at Aqueduct Feb. 2 and the Grade 2 Louisiana Derby March 30. Revolutionary is sixth on the Road to the Kentucky Derby points leaderboard with 110 points. Borel replaces regular rider Javier Castellano who has chosen to ride Normandy Invasion in the Derby.

Borel has won the Kentucky Derby three times—Street Sense (2007), Mine That Bird (2009), and Super Saver (2010). Borel’s mount in last year’s running was Take Charge Indy, who finished 19th after suffering a chip in his ankle.

Revolutionary recently arrived at Churchill Downs and, weather permitting, is scheduled to breeze at Churchill Downs Apr. 21 and Apr. 28.
