As part of the Mimi and Marshal Heuser New Play Development Series, this world premiere is a compilation of biographical details of Lincoln’s life as well as a tableau of speeches, debates, and personal correspondence. Considered one of the most prolific writers to ever hold the presidency, this production will examine ideas of race, poverty, law and literacy from a man whose education was almost entirely self-taught. Stemming from nothing, Lincoln came to be an icon both politically and popularly, during the vehement and socially driven Civil War. Balancing political struggles with the lives of the people, the Lincoln project also recounts the time of slavery through the reflections of a slave child.
