By Sherry Dawssherry@louisville.com Former stockbrokers, entrepreneurs and friends, Dan Robbins and Steve Shelburne, had been talking about opening a bar for approximately 5 years and actively searching for a perfect location for almost 2 years. So, how did these South End boys /files/storyimages/up downtown? Dan says when Steve showed him the place he immediately knew it was right for them just from looking in the windows. There is bar area which adjoins the ample dining room and both have a great view of the pool tables (only 50 cents a game!!!). There are also several big screen TVs for the sports fans and an acoustic stage in that room. The karaoke/ band room is very large and boasts several table and booths. We’re not just talking your run of the mill karaoke either...these guys are bringing in a huge light system, fog machines and they’ll even make a DVD of your star studded performance! They plan to install several large screen TVs outside on the 1,000 square foot patio and there will be a direct link from the karaoke stage so everyone outside can see the show! Dan says they don’t want to put a label on what kind of bar it is, because they have something for almost everyone. These guys understand what a diverse city Louisville is and they wanted a place where everyone felt welcome. I believe they have accomplished their goal. There is always an assortment of people at the bar and it’s such a friendly atmosphere, you can’t pass up the opportunity to meet new friends. Beginning in December they hope to ext/files/storyimages/hours until 4am, incorporate some daytime kid karaoke events and on nights they don’t have extreme karaoke they will have a live band. Ice Breakers is such a fabulous addition to the downtown bar scene...it’s the kind of place where they always remember your name and always greet you with a smile. Dan and Steve are constantly talking to the patrons, asking their opinion and taking suggestions with smiles - they especially like receiving unique suggestions on how to best utilize the acoustic stage in the front room. So far the top three are: hot tub, stripper pole and arm wrestling table. Be sure to stop by and let them know your vote! See you there! For more information or questions call 502-618-2050. |
