Mary Ingalls, the older sister of the celebrated children’s author Laura Ingalls Wilder, was left blind from scarlet fever when she was fourteen. As a young teen, Laura was her sister’s “eyes,” describing everything she saw around her. But what happened to Mary when she and Laura grew up? Come to the Museum to explore the sounds and smells, the textures and tastes, of Mary’s world. Learn all about her richly rewarding life and take a look at some of the books in her library. Sing along with some of Pa’s fiddle tunes, performed by Louisville musician Barbara Henning, weave a beaded bracelet (the same as those Mary made for her sisters), and have some birthday cake made from Ma’s recipe. Come in costume and participate in our Ingalls Family Look-Alike Contest. Free to the public, but registration is required. Call 899-2213 by January 6 to register. For all ages.
