In the spirit of a certain biblical protagonist's recent return, The Alley Theater has postponed the debut of "Ew, Kentucky a Mercifully Short History" to revive the highly successful "The Bible : The Complete Word of God (Abridged)." A staple of multiple incarnations of the Alley Theater, "The Bible…" was last produced in April 2008 at the company's former space in City Block.
"The Bible..." features a trio of actors taking the audience on an affectionate roller coaster ride from fig leaves to Final Judgement as the boys and girl tackle the great theological questions: Did Adam and Eve have navels? Did Moses really look like Charlton Heston? And why isn’t the word "phonetic" spelled the way it sounds? Think Monty Python meets Mel Brooks with a little bit of Saturday Night Live thrown in.
The Reduced Shakespeare Company, creator of this show, is known for the pieces "The Complete Works of Shakespeare in Two Acts", "The Complete History of World Civilization in Two Acts" and several other works.
