How my night at Beer and Loathing in Louisville could possibly go:
Damn it, my beer spilled. Waste of some cents. But one sip, and damn, is this good. Too good. Caramel in my cocoa porter.
I arrived late to the Ice House. The event started at 5, kind of early, but it's Friday and already people are roaring. Heartily smacking each other on the backs or... Asking about Thanksgiving, turkey still hanging from their mouths. They're feeling loose, happy, warm. There's all this KY Guild of Brewers beer. 502 Winery wine, too.
I glance around and notice almost a million Hunter S. Thompson look-a-likes. Bless it, I've never seen so many. Not even at Halloween. Some classic Fear and Loathing Hunter gobbling Crushed Ice snacks tells me there's a big costume contest. Winner takes the prize: Two free tickets to Gonzofest 2015.
Which is why this whole shabang is being held anyway. To raise money for The Gonzo Foundation and mark the halfway point of the 5th annual Gonzofest, started by the Monkey Wrench's Dennie Humphrey. And to celebrate our long-gone good ole boy Hunter, of course.
Bang, bang, the music is ringing like gunshots in Aspen air, that Fat City! Boogie Juice Funk-n Horn-Band whirlin' me right up and around! It'll end soon, at 8, but no worries for my dancing self, the party continues, it always continues. This time at the Monkey Wrench with more music by local Johnny Berry.
Damn me for not costume dressin', but I'm probably gonna end upside down and wild, in the true fashion of the Gonzo goon himself. (Get your heads out of there...)
