At last! October – the finest month of the year. Winter is nice, but it can get very cold, and Spring is no good because it means Summer is just around the corner, and Summer here in the Valley is hell on Earth. October brings the confirmation of Fall – cooler temperatures, colorful leaves, the best beer of the year, and juices of creativity flowing through [at least] my veins. Also: Halloween. Candy, pumpkins, and monsters.
And monster movies.
Tomorrow – Saturday – Baxter Avenue Theater presents a late (but not quite midnight) double feature. It starts at 10:00 with Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein.
Of course, that's not the only classic monster the encounter – our two intrepid comedians also have the [mis]fortune of running into Dracula and the Wolf Man (played by Bela Lugosi and Lon Chaney, Jr., respectively – both of whom played these characters in the original film classics).
Stick around for
which starts at approximately 11:45. This is the 1931 classic starring the above-mentioned Bela Lugosi and directed by Tod Browning. It's the story we all know and love – the unsuspecting Renfield travels to Transylvania to meet the mysterious Count Dracula for a business transaction, not realizing the supernatural reality of this creature. When Dracula comes to England, all hell breaks loose as he sets his sights on the beautiful Mina.
It all starts at 10:00 at Baxter Avenue Theater, which is located at 1250 Bardstown Road, in Mid-City Mall. Further theater information and advance ticket sales can be found at the Baxter Avenue Theater website.
