The Louisville Bats are on the road for the next few days and are starting to win some ballgames. Let’s catch you up on everything with YOUR latest edition of Bats Sunday Notebook.
Let’s (finally) go streaking!!
The Bats go into Sunday’s game with the Pawtucket Red Sox on a six game winning streak. It is their first winning streak of three or more games all season long. During the streak, they have scored 40 runs on 70 hits. They set have had double digits in hits four times and set a season high for runs in a game with 11 on June 21.
Puckett streaking too
Cody Puckett wasn’t off to the best of starts with the Louisville Bats since his promotion May 16. Before the Bats’ win streak started, Puckett was hitting .189 in 27 games. During the Bats’ streak, Puckett is hitting .565 (13-for-23) and is on a six game hitting streak. The 25 year-old has four multi-hit games in that time, including a trio of three-hit performances. He also has at least one RBI in four of his last six games. Puckett’s season average is now up to .263.
Dioner an All Star hopeful
After a slow start, Bats catcher Dioner Navarro has been red hot. Navarro is currently hitting .336 with six doubles, three homers and 19 RBIs. If he qualified, he would lead the league in batting average. Unfortunately, since he doesn’t qualify for statistical leaders, Navarro may very well be overlooked next week when the All Star Teams for the International League and Pacific Coast League are announced. Navarro has hit in 9 of his last ten games and is hitting .441 overall in his last ten.
Donnie Joseph … that is all
Donnie Joseph has continued to impress in a Bats uniform. In four games with the Bats, he has a 2-0 record with a zero ERA and one save. Joseph has yet to allow a hit in his 6-1/3 innings of work for Louisville. Even scarier is the fact Joseph has given up just 13 hits and 3 earned runs in 36-2/3 combined innings between Pensacola and Louisville. Simply dominant.
Perez streaking two times
Felix Perez saw a season-high eight game hitting streak come to an end June 19 against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. What’s a guy to do? Start another streak. Perez is on a four game hitting streak since the 19th. In his last ten games, Perez is hitting .342 with five doubles and eight RBIs. He has four multi-hit games in his last ten and he’s hitting .322 in June. His 11 doubles for the year are tied for third on the team.
The Road Ahead
The Bats finish up an eight game road trip with two more games in Pawtucket Sunday and Monday followed by a four game series with the Buffalo Bison. They then return home to start a six game split series with the Indianapolis Indians followed by a three game set with Toledo before the All Star Break. The Bats will be looking to make up some ground in the standings before the break; they trail Indianapolis by 19 games in the division and are 16.5 out of the wild card.
