Annual Animal Fundraiser Becomes More Family-Oriented
This year's BARK IN THE PARK will cater to both four-legged and two-legged family members.
Scheduled for September 29, 2007 at Seneca Park, the fourth annual fundraising event includes a one-mile walk and 5K run as well as other family-friendly events. Proceeds go to benefit The Animal Care Society - the city's only non-profit, no-kill shelter for dogs and cats, located at 12207 Westport Road. Events for pets and their families include Canine Idol, a Doggie Fashion Show, agility demonstrations, and many other activities during the day-long event which will begin at 8AM and last until 4PM.
Does your pet have a "pawsitively" unique or entertaining talent? Then sign him or her up for Bark in the Park's Second Annual Canine Idol Contest. The winners will be crowned the city's newest "Pup Daddy" and "Mutt Mama." Or maybe you are more inclined to clad your pooch in his or her finest doggie couture for a strut down the runway. And don't be shy - call on your Inner Fashion Diva and join your pampered pooch and strut your stuff! If your pooch is not so prim and proper, then encourage your clever canine to demonstrate his or her athletic dexterity in the Agility Demonstrations. Other events include Pet CPR/First Aid Training, Frisbee demonstrations, K-9 Police Dog Unit demonstration, Obedience/Training classes, and Metro Animal Services' Mobile SPOT Unit.
But don't think all the fun will be just for your furry friends - children can get their faces painted, build a gingerbread dog house, and decorate doggy biscuits.
Vendors will be on-site to provide visitors with pet-themed merchandise and information. Pizza slices, sweet treats, and beverages will also be sold to help you keep your energy level up. Doggie biscuits and other treats will also be available for purchase for your canine companion(s).
And as if all of the above wasn't enough, chances will be sold to win great prizes through ACS's Raffle. Names will be drawn all day. You can also bid on a number of great gifts that will be offered in our Silent Auction.
