Balloon Glow Festivities at Expo Center Were a Hit

The Kentucky Derby Festival Great BalloonFest has grown into a set of five events, but the Balloon Glow continues to be the standout for many. This year's glow, Friday night at the Kentucky Expo Center, brought out the crowd once again.

The evening was beautiful and the winds calmed down just in time to let everyone into the gated area to get up close to the hot air balloons.

Ponies, rides and a Chow Wagon setup kept everyone busy, too. We were excited to see the Ehrler's Ice Cream truck. Who else remembers the old Ehrler's ice cream store? It's just the truck now, but man, that ice cream was smooooooth.

Mike Ehrler was lauded as the 90-years-young pilot of the Udder Delight balloon. He's been at the Balloon Glow for over 40 years straight.

The Sunny Side was there, too!

Who's ready for a Balloon race?

    About Kachina Shaw

A transplanted Hawkeye, I've now lived in Louisville longer than any other city. Can't live without: my husband and fur babies, coal-black coffee, peanut M&Ms, sunflowers, monthly vacations, books, walking paths, massage and a big purse.
