I never go to the St. Matthews Farmers Market. With the Bardstown Road Farmers Market in walking distance for me I’ve never felt compelled to drive to St. Matthews. Until now. After hearing raves about Babycakes cupcakes I finally made a special trip to the St. Matthews Farmers Market (after already walking to and shopping at the Bardstown Road Farmers Market I’ll have you know) and I must say it was worth the trip.
A mix of old favorites and new, interesting flavors of moist cupcakes and fluffy icing greeted me at the Babycakes stand. The lovely Babycakes people were happy to give me samples of all the day’s flavors and I was happy to sample them. Lemon cake with lemon icing, chocolate cake with raspberry buttercream, chocolate with vanilla buttercream, snickerdoodle (cinnamon cake with cinnamon swirl buttercream and red velvet were on the menu the day of my visit.
The selecton changes from week to week so it’s not always guaranteed that your favorite will be available on Saturday morning. That of course is the lone downside of Babycakes: no retail shop. You can either purchase them at the St. Matthews Farmers Market or place an order for two dozen or more cupcakes and have them delivered. (free delivery). No Babycake afternoon snack for you if you don’t plan in advance (or it’s not a Saturday morning) but when you can get them it’s definitely worth the effort.
