Second Stride will hold its 3rd Annual Derby Party and Charity Auction at Molly Malone’s Irish Pub & Restaurant (933 Baxter Avenue) on Monday, April 28, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The event is frequently attended by horse racing’s popular jockeys, owners and trainers. Last year Hall of Fame jockey Gary Stevens, as well as the owners of Kentucky Derby contender Goldencents, were present.

Second Stride is a non-profit agency that provides rehabilitation, retraining, and adoption of retired Thoroughbred racehorses and relies on fundraising and donations to support its efforts.

For a minimum donation of $10 at the door, you can hob-knob with some of the racing elite and bid on racing related items and experience packages. Additionally, Molly Malone’s will donate 10% of the evening’s sales to Second Stride.

Items available at auction include, but are not limited to, mementos from stallions Gio Ponti, Hat Trick, Henny Hughes, Distorted Humor, Animal Kingdom, Curlin, A.P. Indy, Smart Strike, Lemon Drop Kid, Candy Ride, Wise Dan, Groupie Doll, Zenyatta, Giant's Causeway and Thunder Gulch. Auction donors include Walmac, WinStar Farm, Darley Stud, Castleton Lyons, Lane's End Farm, Ashford Stud, Charles LoPresti and Buff Bradley. Bidders can attend and bid onsite or contact Second Stride at info@secondstride.org to get information about phone-in bidding.

The event raised over $20,000 last year and this year partners with the online wagering site BetAmerica as the event’s title sponsor.

“We are delighted to support an event which supports such a worthwhile cause,” said Merv Huber, Marketing Manager of BetAmerica. “The entire team at BetAmerica loves horse racing and its equine athletes as much as all our players do.”
