April Is Mint Julep Month In Louisville
    Print this page

There’s a list on a popular website making the rounds right now that claims, among other things, that Louisvillians don’t really like Mint Juleps.  Any other time of the year I would agree, but nothing says spring in Louisville quite like a punch of fresh mint in your slightly sweetened iced bourbon.  Louisvillians like Mint Juleps exactly one time of the year- Derby season.  As soon as April rolls around we start planning how we are going to celebrate the fastest two minutes in sports- all month long.  It starts with celebrating April as Mint Julep Month.

There are a lot of great restaurants in Louisville and you can get a good Mint Julep at just about all of them.  Just make sure it’s not prepackaged- if you’re going to have one, make it a good one.

The Urban Bourbon Trail restaurants celebrate Mint Julep Month by each creating their own special Juleps.  You can stop by any of these places and have one of the best Mint Juleps of your life, and almost none of them is a typical Mint Julep, though you can certainly order a traditional one.  Even Art Eatables is getting in on the celebration with a small batch Mint Julep truffle.

To learn more about the various Mint Julep offerings at local restaurants, click here.  There are also a lot of recipes for Mint Julep variations.  The Urban Bourbon Trail is also giving away three sets of personalized sterling silver Mint Julep cups.  Enter the contest by clicking here.  Happy Mint Julep Month, y’all!  Be sure to tweet your pictures using the hashtag #MintJulepMonth!
