In addition to the usual array of events included in the First Friday Gallery Hop in downtown Louisville, the Friday, April 1, trolley hop will offer patrons an opportunity to help Metro United Way's Success by 6 program and a special display of past Kentucky Derby Festival posters at The Kentucky Center.
Book donations
Donations of new books for newborns through preschoolers will be collected to aid the group's Book Harvest.
Border's Books & Music will sell books at the Frazier Historic Arms Museum, at 829 W. Main St., and at Swanson Reed Contemporary Gallery, at 638 E. Market St. Baer's Fabrics, at 515 E. Market St., will have a collection bin and cash donations will be accepted at Ray of Light, at 714 E. Market St., and Flame Run Gallery, at 828 E. Market St.
Derby posters
The Gallery at The Kentucky Center, at 501 W. Main St., will feature this year's Kentucky Derby Festival poster artist, Sonny Whittle, signing copies of the 2005 poster from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
To celebrate the silver anniversary of the poster program, the event will offer a display of posters from the past 25 years as well as live blues music by the George Bracken Trio, a cash bar and free hors d'oeuvres. The exhibit will run through Wednesday, May 4.
Artists and special showings will be at many of the galleries and shops along the free trolley route, which runs from 5 to 11 p.m. on Main and Market streets between 10th and Wenzel streets.
