PURPOSE
To teach participants the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. The course content and activities prepare particiants to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and prevent drownings and injuries.
PREREQUISITES
Participants must be able to swim 300 yards continuously using front crawl and breaststroke. Starting in the water, participants must be able to swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps, within 1 minute, 40 seconds.
SESSION 1
March 1-March 24
The class will meet each Monday AND Wednesday evening from 3:30-7:30 from March 1-March 24.
SESSION 2
April 12-May 5
The class will meet each Monday Tuesday AND Wednesday evening from 3:30-7:30 from
April 12-May 5.
SESSION 3
May 10-May 20
The class meets Monday THRU Thursday from
3:30-7:30 for two weeks.
New lifeguards should attend ALL scheduled classes.
Recerts should attend the first three days then receive schedule for remaining required classes (you will need to attend 6 out of 8 classes).
CPR for lifeguarding recertification will not be taught separately this spring. Those participants requiring recertification should contact Nikki Dillon directly.
