The American Basketball Association (ABA) is happy to announce a return to Louisville, KY. Louisville has been home to some of the ABA’s most historical professional basketball teams, such as the famous Kentucky Colonels. However this time around, the community will see the ABA in a much different format.
Starting play at the start of February 2009, will be the Louisville Basketball League (LBL). The LBL will be the ABA’s first and only official farm league. For several seasons their have been community leagues that have been indirectly sponsored by the ABA, but this will be the first and only league that will be directly part of the ABA family.
Chuck Rowe, the Commissioner for the LBL is thrilled to get this program off the ground. He boasts that players from the LBL will play in a highly competitive format and will be scouted by local ABA teams. LBL player stats will be passed on to ABA offices and players will have the chance to earn roster spots on ABA teams.
ABA teams will have the option of letting their players take part in the LBL for additional work or injury rehab. And instead of cutting fringe players after tryouts . . . ABA teams may now send those players to the LBL for a closer look.
Joe Newman , Commissioner for the ABA explains “This is just another great way to bring the ABA into the lives of those in our communities. This does nothing but better the lives of people in every way possible. Fans will see great basketball at an affordable price, players will have the chance to live a dream, and ABA teams will now have a resource to turn to.”
