Acting Against Cancer (AAC) opened their 2015-2016 season with “The Addams Family” musical on October 16th and will continue to have shows till October 25th at the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts (MeX Theater). This show has picked the perfect theme, storyline, and characters for this spooky Halloween season; in fact the rest of the shows are all sold out!

The show opens with a slight variation of the original theme song that many of us lovingly remember with the Addams family singing and dancing in the cemetery, bringing their ancestors out for a night. Things get more interesting as we witness what happens when a husband keeps a secret from his wife for the sake for his daughter. In this case, Gomez Addams is pushed to hide Wednesday’s big boyfriend secret from his wife Morticia. What ensues is a night full of funny, awkward, and tense moments as the Addams family meets the family of Lucas Beineke (Wednesday’s boyfriend).

The play was full of fun, upbeat music with wonderful singing by the entire cast. Every one of the cast members became their Addams Family character and brought them to life, from personality to facial expression with makeup and costume, everything was on point.

From beginning to end, this musical was full of surprises, jokes, spectacular singing and dancing. The sets-made by AAC’s design team, and the lighting were perfect, creating just the right mood through the play.

AAC has two more shows in their 2015-2016 season. All proceeds from the entire 2015-2016 season will go towards their $100,000 pledge for an art therapy program at the Addison Jo Blair Cancer Center at Kosair Children’s Hospital. Donations towards this pledge can be made here.
