91.9 WFPK is proud to present The Derby Week RiverFest at Kroger’s Fest-A-Ville on the Waterfront, Great Lawn, on Wednesday, April 30th.  Activities include the Great Steamboat Race at 5pm and a concert featuring WFPK favorites, Mason Jennings and Brett Dennen with special guest Scott Miller beginning at 7pm.  This concert is free and open to the public with a 2008 Pegasus Pin®.  WFPK will also be broadcasting the concert live beginning at 7pm.

Mason Jennings—One of the best-kept secrets in pop music, Minneapolis-based Mason Jennings is now releasing his sixth full-length album on May 20th, In the Ever, on his long-time fri/files/storyimages/Jack Johnson’s own Brushfire Records.  Jennings cult status may quickly turn to mainstream appeal.  Coming off his 2006 major-label release, Boneclouds, for Modest Mouse leader Isaac Brock’s Epic-distributed Glacial Pace label, Jennings is slated to bring his brand of sometimes deeply personal, sometimes politically-charged broad musical eclecticism and passionate rock-n-roll to a much bigger audience with the announcement of a summer tour supporting Jack Johnson and his recent vocal performances in the pseudo Dylan biography I’m Not There.

Brett Dennen—Youthful West Coast singer/songwriter Brett Dennen first drew attention in 2004 with the single “Desert Sunrise”.  The tune, with its easy groove and soulful phrasing, garnered enough praise to warrant the release of his self-titled debut the following year.  In 2006 Dennen signed with Dualtone and released So Much More.  Since then this laid-back folk rocker has been getting the attention of artists, critics and music fans.  Superstar John Mayer took him on tour after catching the relaxed roots-rocker at a gig in California.  Late last year, Rolling Stone voted him one of the “Top Ten Artist’s to Watch” and his record peaked at No. 1 on the eMusic charts. 

Scott Miller—Virginia native Scott Miller has always been a Louisville favorite, beginning as the front-man for Steve Earle proteges The V-Roys and continuing on his own as Scott Miller & the Commonwealth.  Miller most recently wowed a near-capacity crowd at the Brown Theatre opening for Patty Griffin.  Miller proved that emotional honesty and intelligent songwriting with a healthy dose of a rocker’s swagger can easily translate into a stellar solo performance in front of a large crowd.
