Join Rick Bell on Jan. 31 as he celebrates the release of his new book The Great Flood of 1937. Bell will discuss the flood and provide an overview of the impact it had on Louisville. Images from the book will also be presented. The flood submerged about 70% of the city and forced 175,000 residents to evacuate.

Due to the flood and its damage, the city is now protected by numerous floodwalls.

January 2007 will mark the 70th anniversary of the crisis.

Bell is currently Executive Director of the U.S. Marine Hospital Foundation. He has been a non-profit fundraising professional for over 30 years. As a Portland area native, he has worked for years compiling a history of the neighborhood. Bell will be available after the presentation for a book signing.

There is no charge for the event at The Filson Historical society.
