Thirty-one Louisville restaurants have put together a program, Louisville Restaurants for Tsunami Relief, to assist the victims of the Dec. 26 disaster. On Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 9 and 10, participating eateries will donate 10 percent of all guest dinner checks to the American Red Cross.
Peng S. Looi, the chef/owner of Asiatique and August Moon Chinese Bistro, and Jeff Jarfi, the chef/owner of Jarfi's Bistro & Catering, are spearheading the project.
"The tsunamis had a profound effect on so many restaurateurs who have indicated they would like to contribute to this relief effort," said Looi. "I have a special interest in helping to organize the project because I am from Malaysia, one of the countries seriously impacted by the tsunamis.
Participating restaurants include Asiatique, August Moon Chinese Bistro, Bristol Bar & Grille, Buck's at the Mayflower, Cafe Metro, Club Grotto, Cunningham's, The English Grill at the Camberley Brown Hotel, Equus, Flanagan's Ale House, Greek Paradise Cafe, Jarfi's Bistro, Jarfi's Tapas Room, Jicama Grill, Irish Rover, Jack Fry's, Lilly's, Limestone, Lynn's Paradise Cafe, Maharaja, O'Shea's Irish Pub, Park Place, Ramsi's Cafe on the World, Sala Thai, Shalimar, 610 Magnolia, Thai Cafe, Thai Siam, Uptown, Volare, and Z's Oyster Bar.
"Louisville chefs and restaurant owners traditionally have been very generous," said Jarfi. "This is yet another example of that generosity. I hope Louisvillians will make a special effort to dine out one or both of the nights of the project to support the restaurants' commitment and to demonstrate their own concern for such a devastating event."
