Established in Louisville in February 1999 when more than 100 brrrrrave souls raised funds and made a splash into the Ohio River, this event has grown into a signature event across the country for the Special Olympics organization and it grows each year.
In 2005, the Polar Bear Plunge grew to six locations throughout the state and almost 1,500 participants raised a record $300,000 to support Special Olympics programs in Kentucky.
The 2005 Louisville Polar Bear Plunge raised $170,000, with almost 800 hitting the chilly waters.
In 2006, the Plunge expands again, adding a new event in Paducah, making the 2006 season the biggest and hopefully the best Plunge season in the program's history. Join us for an unbearably great time and TAKE THE PLUNGE!
