Henry Trowell IV was born on March 31, 1975 - just four hours after the doors first opened at Baptist Hospital East.
And now, 30 years after he became the first baby born at Baptist East, he has marked the anniversary with a new daughter.
Maya Garrett Trowell was born on March 23 at Baptist East - almost 30 years to the day her father was born.
"It's just real special for me," said Trowell, of Jeffersontown. "I'm proud of being the first baby born at Baptist East."
Maya weighed 8 pounds, 15 ounces and was 21 inches long. She and her mother, Melissa Watkins, are both in good health following the delivery.
While at the hospital, mom, dad and baby were visited by some nurses who have been with Baptist East for 30 years and remembered the hospital's first birth.
Within 48 hours of the hospital's opening in 1975, 34 more babies were born.
Baptist East averages between eight and nine deliveries a day, and in 2004, 3,160 babies were born at the hospital.
The biggest baby among all those deliveries weighed more than 20 pounds.
Trowell, who has another daughter, Kayla, said that Maya was due on March 29, and he had hoped that they might share a birthday.
Regardless, he's still a proud father.
"We're very excited and very happy," he said.
