Re-telling the haunting true story of her great-grandfather’s life in slavery, author Judith C. Owens-Lalude brings her novel, ‘The Long Walk: From Slavery to Freedom’, to Carmichael’s Bookstore this Sunday, October 21st at 4pm.
In the days before the Civil War ended in 1865, a main track of the Underground Railroad ran through Louisville, where a substantial community of slaves who had won their freedom, along with sympathetic whites, helped Southern fugitives find Northern freedom.
An observation on slavery is brought to life at The Bard's Town in Shame the Devil: An Audience With Fanny Kemble.
In conjunction with Black History Month, local historian and former Filson staffer, Peg Bogert, will explore the history of slavery in Kentucky this Thursday, February 16th at 12pm at The Filson Historical Society.
