The Durham Bulls beat the Louisville Bats 4-2 Sunday evening at Durham Bulls Athletic Park to win the best-of-five Governors’ Cup playoff series 3-2 and end Louisville’s remarkable season.
Todd Frazier’s one-out, two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning propelled the Louisville Bats to a 2-1 win over host Durham in the Governors’ Cup semifinals at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Louisville leads the best-of-five series 2-1 and can clinch a spot in the Governors’ Cup championship series with a victory at 7:05 p.m. Saturday or 5:05 p.m. Sunday.
The Louisville Bats won a game, beating the Indianapolis Indians 6-3 at Louisville Slugger Field, and also won their third straight International League West title Monday afternoon thanks to Toledo’s 5-2 win over Columbus on the final day of the IL regular season. Louisville scored five runs in the first three innings and got a solid start from Ben Jukich, left, who took a no-hitter into the sixth inning. The Bats open postseason play Wednesday against Durham at 6:05 p.m. at Louisville Slugger Field.

The loss dropped Louisville 1 1/2 games behind Columbus, which beat Toledo on Thursday, in the International League West with four games to play. The Bats, however, do lead Syracuse by three games in the IL wildcard race.
A five-run seventh inning and some solid pitching propelled the Louisville Bats to an 8-0 win over the Toledo Mud Hens on Sunday afternoon at Louisville Slugger Field. The victory, coupled with one by Columbus, helped Louisville maintain its 1 1/2-game lead over the Clippers in the International League West standings. The Louisville Bats won their seventh straight game Wednesday night, and their 18th in their last 19th, beating host Toledo 4-3 at Fifth Third Field. The victory pulled Louisville, which was 13 games out of first place in the International League West on the Fourth of July, within a half-game of division-leading Columbus.
The Louisville Bats roughed up former closer Jon Adkins, now a relief pitcher for Charlotte, for four unearned runs in the seventh inning on their way to a 5-2 win over the Knights on Friday night at Louisville Slugger Field.
For the fifth time in their last seven games, all of which have been on the road, the Louisville Bats hit at least three home runs in a game. They hit four more on Sunday to beat host Gwinnett 8-3.
