The Toledo Mud Hens beat Homer Bailey and the Louisville Bats 6-3 Sunday afternoon at Louisville Slugger Field.
Led by Michael Lorenzen, one of the top pitching prospects in the Cincinnati Reds organization, the Louisville Bats picked up their first win of the season, shutting out Toledo 5-0 Saturday night at Louisville Slugger Field.
Wladimir Balentien's two-run double in the top of the ninth gave he Louisville Bats an 8-7 win over host Toledo at Fifth Third Field as they improved to 9-2 in one-run games in July and August. Balentien, left, went 3-for-5 with five RBIs.
Homer Bailey continued to show that he is ready to return to the parent Cincinnati Reds, giving up six hits while striking out nine over seven innings as Louisville beat Norfolk 6-0 Thursday night at Louisville Slugger Field. That helped Bailey extend his scoreless streak to 13 2/3 innings and tied the Bats for the International League lead in shutouts (12).
The Louisville Bats set a franchise record with their 22nd victory in July on Saturday night with a 10-2 win over International League West-leading Columbus. In his second rehab start with the Bats, Homer Bailey, left, bettered local boys Marty Popham (Butler High School) and Jeremy Sowers (Ballard High School) as Louisville won its ninth game in a row.
