On November 25, 1976 americana folk rock group, The Band, played the most elaborate "farewell" concert ever,The Last Waltz. The 5,000 audience members were treated to a turkey dinner, ballroom dancing, poetry readings from Beat poets, Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Diane de Prima, and a concert that featured Bob Dylan, Ringo Starr, Dr. John, Joni Mitchell, Muddy Waters, Eric Clapton, and other notable artists of the time.
This Saturday, May 23, Mercury Ballroom [4] will host "Such a Night-Recreating the Music of The Last Waltz [5]", a concert tour created in the memory of The Band's Levon Helm. "Such a Night" lends an opportunity to experience one of the most iconic concerts of all time, minus the turkey dinner and ballroom dancing.
Tickets are available at Live Nation [6] for $15. A portion of the event's proceeds will benefit Musician's Emergency Relief Foundation in memory of Lamont Gillespie.
