But of course, we came to the fair with a craving for something fried. Not to worry dear readers, we were saving money in our budget for a fattening treat to come. We finally finished up the South Wing and headed over to take a quick gander at the West Wing. Every year, I purchase local honey for my mother as a gift, so we stopped by the honey booth. We bought honey sticks to share that were three for $1. So that put us at a whopping $41. We made an attempt to see the animals in the West Wing. At the time, it was closed off as they were moving out poultry, pigeons, and rabbits to bring in the sheep and swine for display. We were able to see them later as we were walking back to our car from the midway.
Finally, we made it over to the fair midway and walked around the circle. I can’t tell you how amusing it is simply to watch people. By this time, it was due time for something fried. We bought a funnel cake for $6 to split while listening to Soul Circus at the Budweiser tent. This put us at $47. While nomming on the funnel cake, we agreed to ride something and play a game. Since our relationship began on a Ferris wheel, it was obvious which ride that was going to be. Our romantic Ferris wheel ride took $10 from our budget, putting us at $57. And after playing “Fool the Guesser,” we were over budget by two bucks.
Now we understand all couples are different. Some may have wanted to budget more money for the rides than for the food. You just have to create a game plan that works for you and stick to it. Make it an adventure! I know Jared and I left the fair that night happy and content.
