What are you wearing to Breeders' Cup? [Breeders' Cup] [2]

This being my first time attending the Breeders' Cup [4], naturally my first question was, "What do I wear?!" Preparing for my first Kentucky Derby [5] was quite the operation and I wanted to make sure I was prepared for Breeders' Cup. Kentucky and horse culture is so full of traditions, I want to know and ascribe to all of them when attending these types of events. However, unlike the KY Derby, there is very limited information available online about Breeders' Cup etiquette and fashion. I've done some asking around and here's what I've gathered:

    •    Not as many women wear hats. You will not look odd wearing a hat, but it is not necessary like the Derby. Also, if you choose to wear a hat tone it down from the normal Derby-wear.
    •    It's all about the boots! Since it's going to be cold, boots are more important than hats! I personally will be wearing some equestrian style black knee high boots...totally appropriate.
    •    This is a more sporty crowd. The people attending are an international crowd that truly care about the race...not the fashion and the mint juleps. Think "Sophisticated European" not "Drunk American".
    •    Dress warm! Tomorrow for the main event it will be a high of 51 degrees Fahrenheit. By 7pm, it will be in the high 40's for the main race. Brrrrr.

An exciting incentive to dressing up is The Breeders' Cup and Voice-Tribune [6]fashion contest. The Voice-Tribune will award the best dressed man and woman of the day with $5,000.00 each! You can register for the event online or sign up in the Aristides Garden from 2-4pm today! For more information test ANGIE to 511511.
