It’s no secret that I am a huge fan of food and beverage pairings. In the past, I have imparted information on the importance of all the usual pairing suspects: beer [4], wine [5], and sparkling wine [6]. Now, I am pleased to report on the upcoming Jim Beam Bourbon Dinner at Equus & Jack’s Lounge [7], taking place on Monday the 28th.

This dinner features five courses, each expertly paired with a bourbon cocktail mixed by Joy Perrine, bar manager of Jack’s Lounge and author of “The Kentucky Bourbon Cocktail Book.” The menu is as follows:

Amuse Course
Deviled Quail Egg, Caviar

Bourbon Pairing: Taste of Jim Beam

First Course
Steamed Shrimp Dumpling, Smoked Tomato Seafood Nage

Bourbon Cocktail: Dark & Bloody Mary

Second Course
Field Mix, Dried Cherries, Pumpkin Seeds, Cherry Vinaigrette

Bourbon Cocktail: Cherry Bounce

Third Course
Prime Beef Filet, Apple & Almond Risotto,

Cranberry & Acorn Squash Sauté, Demi Glace
Bourbon Cocktail: Jersey Devil’s Cut

Fourth Course
Pumpkin Marshmallow S’Mores, Chocolate, Caramel

Bourbon Cocktail: Pumpkin Spice Eggnog

Also in attendance will be Fred Noe and Bernie Lubbers, master distiller and whiskey professor, respectively, of Jim Beam Global Spirits & Wine, Inc. In the words of Joy Perrine, “If you have never had the chance to meet Fred Noe or Bernie Lubbers, you don’t know what you are missing. Nobody makes Bourbon more entertaining than these two fine gentlemen!”

Dinner is at 6:30 and costs $75 per person (plus tax and gratuity). Reservations are required and can be made by calling 502-897-9721. Equus & Jack’s Lounge is located at 122 Sears Avenue.

(Side note: I highly recommend purchasing Joy Perrine’s “Kentucky Bourbon Cocktail Book” to anybody who loves bourbon, cocktails, or imbibing in general. It is a fantastic and informative read and would make the perfect Christmas gift. Buy local books!)
