So, since it's legal to have a billy goat or two within the city limits [4](and they're the greenest way to landscape) I invite the urban gardener to take a look at some at the International Boer Goat Association 2011 [5]Show at the Expo Center [6]this weekend. The Junior U.S. National show--which features 5 to 19 year olds--is also happening simultaneously. Judging goes on until Sunday, starting 8am daily. Everything takes place in the West Wing and West Hall W5-W10 of the Expo Center. For more information call (903) 364-5735. It's free and the goats are good looking.
Since an inspiring aspect of the goat is their appetite, I'd also like to encourage a separate event--Wild Edibles of Summer [7]--happening at Bernheim Forest on Saturday (July 9th). The event will take place from 9am to 12pm at the education center. Interpretive Programs Manager, Wren Smith will teach a program on how to responsibly eat wild plants found around the yard (Not that a goat is that picky, but you have to admit, you're getting awfully close to its diet in this workshop). The program runs $25 for members and $35 for non-members. Make sure to call (502) 955-8512 and sweet talk them before making the drive out to Bernheim.
