SITTING PRETTY
No, you are not looking at a real saddle. But it’s easy to see why you might think so, given that South Carolina woodworker Shane Howell’s life-size Faithful Mount is a painstakingly accurate mahogany and basswood copy of a real training saddle, right down to the smallest detail. “I made this piece to illustrate the very best in carving,” Howell says. “I wanted to overshadow any handcrafted work I have seen or done.” His meticulously carved wood pieces start at $3,000; the saddle costs $20,000. FLEUR-DE-LIS TURN-ON

A particularly enlightened way to proclaim your Louisville pride is with these fleur-de-lis switchplates from Work the Metal. Made from recycled brass and sold for $15 apiece, they’re available in four colors: off-white, oxidized, green and reddish-brown. ALL HAIL HATS

As someone once said, “It’s all about the hats, ladies.” Artist K.M. Walizer understands that, so she created a print series called “Derby Hats.” One of the most popular images among the 12 limited-edition color lithographs is Picking a Winner II, which comes in a variety of sizes, from a 6?-by-7?-inch small print for $25 to an 11-by-14-inch framed and double-matted print for $86. It’s also featured as one of the images in a stationery box of 10 cards for $12. JOCKEYING FOR DINNER

Louisville Stoneware’s new equine pattern is called “Comin’ at Ya.” This colorful ceramics line includes an 11-inch-diameter plate for $30, a four-inch-tall mug for $23, a 14-inch-diameter thin platter for $53, and a 10-inch-tall lipped wine cooler with saucer for $60. Other items are being added right up to Derby. HEAD OVER HOOVES
Sculptor Guy Tedesco feels strongly about horses, having portrayed the animal singly or in a group. This hammered copper horse head, with its flowing mane, is designed to hang on a wall, measuring approximately 40 by 44 inches.
