We are jumping right into fall with a packed next couple of weeks. Don't miss out on the great music, especially at the outdoor events! For location, time and cost, click on the links for each event. Be sure to check back at livemusiclou.com after for our full reviews!
Monday (9/21) -
Jennifer Hall, The Vaticans, Caleb Jones & The Family Band [4]
This young Chicago talent creates music that ethereal yet emotive. There is definitely something fascinating in what Jennifer Hall creates, making this Monday night show a hard one to miss.
Tuesday (9/22) -
Calexico’s fusion of indie rock with a Latin flair makes for a pretty individual sound. They are exactly the kind of band that Louisville music fans usually really enjoys, so we hypothesize Headliners will be packed full, even for a Tuesday.
An Evening with Chris Robinson Brotherhood [6]
You’ve got a tough choice between this show and Calexico. Chris Robinson Brotherhood is the sole project of uber-talented Chris Robinson, now that The Black Crowes are officially done. The evening will be full of the bluesy-rock this band has become so well known for.
Wednesday (9/23) -
The Palace will be overtaken by San Diego rockers Stone Temple Pilots, out on tour with the newest member of the band, Chester Bennington (think Linkin Park). He’s the lead vocal on their most recent album, High Rise.
Six Bells, Jaye [8]Jayle
Two Louisville bands with interesting sounds will be taking over Zbar. Jaye Jayle is the experimental band of Young Widows frontman Evan Patterson, and Six Bells is a fairly new band to the scene that has had only positive reviews of their limited number of live shows. Should be a good night to see some fresh Louisville rock.
Thursday (9/24) -
Punch Brothers, Gabriel Kahane [9]
Chris Thile and his fellow Punch Brothers men are some of the most talented folk musicians in the business. Each time we’ve seen them (which is up to four times now) we grow more and more impressed with their skill and just plain ability to perform.
Low Cut Connie, Buffalo Wabs & The Price Hill Hustle [4]
Low Cut Connie has made a lot of noise on the music scene, quite literally. They are known for an unbelievably raucous live show, which sounds like the making for a sick Thursday night.
WLFY's 8th Birthday with Frederick The Younger (EP Release Show), Maximon, Brenda [10]
We Listen For You, another local music blog is turning 8! To celebrate, Haymarket will host Frederick The Younger, who also will be sharing their brand new EP with us. Double the libations for double the celebration.
Friday (9/25) -
Live! On Fourth Street: Dwight Yoakam [11]
Fourth Street Live is doing it big with a Kentucky native and country favorite, Dwight Yoakam. These inexpensive shows are a draw for out of towners and locals alike, especially when they include someone like Yoakam.
Patty Griffin with Sam Lee [12]
The legendary folk songstress will be in town to celebrate the release of her latest album, Servant of Love (it is literally being released that day!). Needless to say, it should be a special night at Headliners.
Seluah, CHEW, John The Band [4]
We recently spoke with some folks from CHEW, a new experimental band, and I think they definitely have that something that Louisville fans would be really into. Seluah, a Louisville band with a storied history, has a new album to share with us, so I think The New Vintage will be packed to hear what they’ve been working on.
Do502 App Launch Party with The Hood Internet [13]
Our dudes at Do502 are having a rager to celebrate the launch of their (iPhone only for now) app! YAS.
Saturday (9/26) -
Nulu Fest [14]
This annual celebration of Nulu has grown with each year. Last year, we not only loved the music, but also the food, drinks and positive vibe. There will be music all day, with many local (including a few of our favorites Alex Wright, Local Villains and Graffiti) and regional artists playing to what I’m sure will be a massive crowd.
Rye Back Porch Sessions with 1200, BEACONS, Twenty First Century Fox [15]
The Rye Back Porch Finale will be going on simultaneously at the far end of Nulu Fest, so if you’re over on Market, make sure you wander all the down to Rye. Several of 1200’s recent string of shows have been cancelled due to crap weather, so I have a feeling he’s got a lot pent-up and is going to show out for this one.
Louisville Orchestra performs Bernstein: Mass [16]
From what we’ve heard, the Louisville Orchestra’s latest performance of Bernstein’s Mass is going to be something else. The piece, first performed in the 1970s, is a fusion of rock, blues, theatrical and classical all put together into one unified sound by the orchestra, several choirs and dancers. Teddy Abrams will be directing this massive undertaking that will draw in music lovers of all types.
Butchertown Get Down: Pretty In Pink with JP Source [17]
Molly Ringwald was the main b** back in the day, so this should be fun. And, it’s the last one, so head on over to PLAY!
Nulu Fest Afterparty with Cat Casual’s Hotel [18]Boheme
Feel like keeping the night rolling after Nulu finishes? Meander down to Haymarket for some of the best cocktails in the city and the eclectic picks of DJ Cat Casual.
