Kentucky Shakespeare will open its annual summer season of free shows in Central Park tonight with The Tempest.
The Tempest will run June 4-14 every night but Monday, June 8, then on various days throughout the rest of the summer. Performances are at 8 p.m each night at Central Park, located at 1340 S. 4th Street [4] in Old Louisville.
All shows are free and open to the public, but be sure to bring a blanket or lawn chair alongside the bug spray.
The Tempest explores themes of justice, humanity, and desire for power as Prospero, the rightful Duke of Milan who has been forced out of power and banished to an island by his brother, plans to place his daughter Miranda in her rightful place of nobility. Prospero uses magic and illusion to start a storm and force his enemies to the island upon which he is stranded.
