It’s the Friday before Memorial Day and if you still haven’t made plans for your Monday off work, you’re running out of time! But who says you have to save all the fun for Monday? Why not get a head start and kickoff the Memorial Day festivities on Saturday, May 23rd, starting with the annual Strawberry Festival [4] held just a short drive over the bridge in Starlight, Indiana!
For over 35 years, the community of Starlight, along with the congregation of St. John’s Catholic Church [5] and the Huber family [6], has been celebrating the harvest of one of their favorite fruits by sponsoring the yearly festival on the Saturday before Memorial Day. So if you’ve never been to the springtime celebration, it’s a great year to make it an annual tradition for your family.
Staying true to its roots, the Strawberry festival will offer several strawberry-themed treats, like classically sweet homemade strawberry smoothies and a build-your-own strawberry shortcake bar! I dare you to find something more delicious to do on Saturday.
Along with these scrumptious strawberry delights, the festival will feature several arts and crafts booths and a number of games and inflatable bounce houses for the kids. And for the festival’s early birds, there will be the “Run for the Berries” 5K marathon that will take you on a beautiful scenic route through Starlight. All runners and walkers of all ages are encouraged to sign up and participate!
The “Run for the Berries” begins at 8am sharp and will end after the last participant finishes. There is a participation fee for all runners and walkers, and you can apply to join the race here [7].
The other festivities of the annual Strawberry Festival will also begin at 8am and end at 6pm. Parking and admission to the festival is completely free! For directions to the festival and more information about this annual tradition, visit the festival’s official website here [4]!
