Film geekdom is a wonderful thing. I’m not talking about racing out to see the new Mad Max movie (although, also a good idea), but real film geekdom – a love and appreciation for the classics and an understanding of what makes them great. Two local filmmakers have this passion, and it informs their work to great effect. Tonight, Thursday, May 21, you, our dear reading audience, have the opportunity to attend a screening of the complete works (so far) of Matt Rivera and Evan Sennett, the forces behind Rivera-Sennett Films.
The event will feature four short films: The Executive, a silent comedy in the tradition of Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton (with live musical accompaniment by Zach Driscoll of The Deloreans and Billy Goat Strut Revue); Writing the Big One, an answer to the genre of classic film noir; Everything’s Relative, about a high school student’s attempts to pull off a Sergei Eisenstein film festival; and Keep it Clean, wherein a man finds a dead body in his bathroom. (Keep it Clean has the distinction of having been shot on 16 mm film – a throwback to traditional filmmaking in this digital age. It will be shown in this format, as will The Executive). The evening will conclude with a preview of Rivera-Sennett’s new film, A Midnight Swan Song.
The event will take place at 9:00 at the Green Building, located at 732 E. Market Street. Admission is $5. Complete details can be found at the Facebook event page [4]. Check out the Rivera-Sennett website [5] for information on their work.
