Kristeen Young is a voice harbored from the mid-west, born and raised in St. Louis, MO. After learning to play piano when she was a teenager, she soon began writing her own songs and eventually went to a nearby art school.
She blew onto the scene in the late 90’s with her debut album "Meet Miss Young and Her All Boy Band." Immediately her brash songwriting and fierce sense of style kept her on the line between eccentric rock star and purveyor of high-art. She was Lady Gaga in a time when Lady Gaga was still wearing zit cream and training bras.
Young has continued to work releasing a total of seven albums with biting titles like: "Enemy," "Breasticles," "X," "The Orphans," and the mouthful of a title, "Music for Strippers, Hookers, and The On-lookers." She gained a reputation as one of the most unique and edgy songwriters in the industry, floating just below the surface of the mainstream, but close enough to get the attention of glam-God David Bowie.
And while Bowie was working on his 2002 album "Heathen," he beckoned for Young specifically to contribute piano and vocals to the sessions. The Bowie sessions got the attention of his legendary producer Tony Voscanti – who had worked on classic albums by Iggy Pop, Thin Lizzy, Adam Ant, and of course Bowie. Voscanti soon agreed to produce her next album, "Breasticles," which also featured a favor returned from Bowie, considering he sang the duet “Saviour” with Young for the album.
She has also worked with Dave Grohl, Morrissey, and Brian Molko of Placebo.
Currently on tour supporting her latest album, The Knife Shift, Kristeen Young will be performing at New Vintage on tonight April 20th, the show begins 8:00 PM, and tickets range from $8.00 to $10.00.
