These days, many of us are able to email, call or text our doctors and receive quick communications between visits. But what would you ask if you could bend a doctor’s ear for the duration of a pleasant walk through the park?
The Walk with a Doc program [4] combines a casual setting with the opportunity to speak with a number of health professionals about a long list of topics.
Why is walking part of this program? The Walk with a Doc site lists 100 healthful reasons to walk regularly [5], and Deborah Ballard, an MD with KentuckyOne Health Primary Care, sponsor of the program, said in a release, “The benefits of regular exercise, including brisk walking, are vast. A number of health conditions, such as low bone density, high blood pressure and heart disease, can all be improved through regular exercise.”
Walks are scheduled at three Louisville parks and all start at 10:00 a.m. The meetups often include health screenings, refreshments and giveaways, as well. The health professionals for the first several walks have been announced. Check back with the web site to see who else will be participating through the summer and fall.
