  St. Patrick's Day Parade in the HighlandsEach year, the Louisville Hibernians put together, with the wonderful help of all of our “Irish” friends, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade! The 2015 AOH St. Patrick’s Parade theme is “Hibernians do it in the Highlands!” As many as 150 units are expected for this year’s parade, which will step off at 3 p.m. at Baxter and Broadway proceeding along the Baxter/Bardstown Road corridor. Often called the “people’s” parade, families join a mix of decorated vehicles and groups along the route. As many as 100,000+ people watched or marched in last year’s parade. The morning of the parade, we invite all to enjoy an Irish Breakfast followed by Noon Mass.

A special ceremony will bless the beers at the brewery in preparation for the upcoming St. Patrick’s Parade. Everyone shows up around 5 p.m. or so (Irish time you understand) at the BBC Taproom on 636 E. Main. Our good friends and sponsors at the BBC brew a special keg of Bourbon Barrel Stout for us that’s been aging for 5 years or so. We then take the keg to O’Shea’s on Baxter (approximately 6:30) where we march it in behind a piper and all the Hibernians in single file. O’Shea’s Executive Chef Rick Adams will add his touch to the specials of corned beef and cabbage, bangers and mash, shepherds pie and Guinness Stew.

Free! Girls and Guys, Hats & Ties Fashion Show at Churchill Downs Fashion show and silent auction of 50 hats and ties to benefit Dress for Success of Louisville (DFSL). The event features a fashion show with local hat designers and boutiques, silent auction, specialty cocktails, hat demonstrations by Jo Ross and music by DJ Jaybird. The event will be held at The Turf Club of Churchill Downs and 100% of proceeds go to DFSL. The Museum of the American Printing House for the Blind will present a Festival of New Plays, all by playwrights who are blind or visually impaired, on Friday, March 13, at 7 p.m., and Saturday, March 14, at 1 p.m. The plays resulted from a series of playwriting workshops taught by Kentucky playwright and poet, Constance Alexander, at the Museum last fall. This year's plays are, "The Dogalog," by Rick Roderick, "Milady Hero," by Barbara Henning, "A Fire's Definition," By Madelyn Lloyd, and "The Message That Wasn't There," by Dave Trevino. All the plays in the Festival are presented as Readers Theater. There are no sets, no special lighting, and minimal costumes and props. The actors, who are all blind or visually impaired, read from embossed braille scripts. They use gestures appropriate for their characters and intonation appropriate for their characters’ words. TV personalities, members of the media, dignitaries, and MS friends & members will judge entries. A free pancake breakfast and coffee will be provided. This event is free and open to the public. We encourage and invite people to learn more about MS and how to help the organization.
