The National Weather Service is predicting up to a foot of snow in the Louisville Metro area. A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for Jefferson County and other counties around Kentuckiana starting from this evening to 1am Tuesday, February 17. Many parents (JCPS in particular) have received their texts from their local school systems and officials announcing that schools are closed. This snow day will be made up on Friday, April 3, according to Jefferson County Public Schools Facebook page [4]. As a JCPS parent, I say kudos to the school system for making the announcement early this evening and allowing parents to alter schedules and make plans for care for their school children. The following is a list of school closings so far:

Academy For Individual Excellence
Anderson County Schools
Boyle County Schools
Breckinridge/Grayson Head Start
Franklin County Public Schools
Friends School
Hancock County Public Schools
Hayfield Montessori
Jefferson County Public Schools
Jefferson County Catholic Elementary and High Schools
LaRue County Schools
Northside Christian School
Valor Traditional Academy
Washington County Schools

Indiana:

Christian Academy of Indiana
Crawford County Schools
Floyd County Head Start
Greater Clark County Schools
New Albany-Floyd County Schools

Obviously, many more school systems will be announcing closings as the night and morning progresses. According to the National Weather Service Louisville Kentucky Facebook [5], "Snow will spread into the Ohio Valley tonight. The heaviest snow will fall Monday morning and afternoon, with rates of 2 inches or more per hour. Most of the region can expect at least 6 inches of snow, with localized totals of a foot or more likely. Prepare now as travel will become very hazardous or impossible on Monday."

If you are home with your children, check out the Louisville Metro Parks link [6] about places to sled around the city. See the metro's website [7] for updated information about the storm.
