You know when Jay-Z and Kanye West released their collaboration album and the world freaked out because they are, by some standards, the two best rappers alive? Well this is Louisville's version of that.
The day after performing another huge hip hop show Saturday at Mercury Ballroom to close Do502's Free Week, JaLin Roze and 1200 premiered a song together fittingly titled "1200 Rozes."
Each rapper gets a verse then they play off each other. The defining characteristic of this song is in lyrical choice and style, Roze and 1200 are distinctly doing their thing, but on the song, the different flows work very well together. Their verses are only half the song. A male and female vocalist step in for the second half of the song to play off the rappers on the following phrase: "If I die tonight/I'm giving you 1200 rozes."
This song is good, but it leaves the listener wanting a bit more from them. It feels like this could be a whole project and 1200 Rozes is the name of the project. If it is, that could be big. That said, this is another move in the right direction for Louisville hip hop's momentum.
